About Me:
My running friends called me "Kayano". Now, I am known as "Titanium Kayano". What to know more? Run along with me on 6 Dec 2009 to complete the 42.195km and I will tell you why "Titanium Kayano"
For now, I can tell you I did a crazy thing one August morning in year 2006. Let me recall when I ever had any link to marathon.....mmmm.
In year 1986, March 23, I participated in the Singapore Marathon. I did the 10km in 52min. At that time, they called it the "1/4 Marathon".
20 years later, in year 2006, I signed up for my first ever full marathon. 42.195km ! I am crazy and in deep trouble. So, I came out with my own grand plan to tackle this 42.195km. First, I needed to conquer my first 2.4km before I can proceed to 5km. Why? I never get to run in IPPTs. I was exempted from BMT during my NS days. Jealous right?
So, I needed to track my mileages, timings and progresses. I look to Microsoft Project for help. The rest of the distances were history. The 42.195km project was completed in 5:45hr. The following year, I completed the next marathon in 4:40hr.
Since then, I have completed 5 full marathons, 4 ultra-marathons and the recent ultra-marathon was "The NorthFace100km Duo event". This race has humbled me and along the way, I helped 4 fellow runners and two of them managed to finished the race 2 minutes a head of me. The other fellow runner, I had to call for the race medical officer to help the runner out. Along the way, I gave the enouragement, motivate them, gave heads up to the distances ahead. I even helped out a total stranger lady runner by passing her my handheld water bottle as she had left her hydration pack with her partner at the last waterpoint.
I also took part in various distances of 10km and half marathons. The recent 10km event completed was the New Balance RealRun 2009. I finished in 1:01 hrs.
Running a marathon is an endurance activity. It keeps me focus and helps me to endure the distance no matter how it goes. Running has taught me to pace events in life. Conquering a marathon distance is like project management. Need to break the distance into smaller, manageable distances and tackle them in portion. As in project management, there are milestones, risks, contingencies and deliverables to handle. There is no short cut.
I will tell you more as we run this 42.195km together on Dec 6 2009.
As a pacer for this event, together with my team mates in the 5:15hr group, we strive to bring fellow runners to the Finish Line and most of all to enjoy the running scene along the route. You will not be alone running. There will be other runners around you and most important of all, you will have us the pacers to guide you, run with you and cross the Finish Line with you.
Join me and let's run in pace together and finish your race!
See you at the FINISH LINE!
Why ?
I don't know where you are at the START LINE!
